Exactly WHAT is the point you are making? All I see is massive assumptions and inferrences based only upon whatever may cross your warped thought process.

2) Exactly whom are you addressing in the 5:54 AM comment, Indigo ROSE ar Indigo RED? These are two distinctly different people, although I will concede I.Rose being the intrinsically smarter of the two.

It is enough that I speak English here in the USA, because that is the common language. When I lived in foriegn countries for long periods of time I learned the and spoke the common language.

Oh, and a thirg question:
3) What language do you speak? It sure as hell isn't the commomon language of English as you have no idea of the meaning of so many of the words and combinations thereof which I and other commenters use.Indigo Redhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17906787350123925867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165413245006274322006-12-06T05:54:00.000-08:002006-12-06T05:54:00.000-08:00Of course I know about Canadians and their languag...Of course I know about Canadians and their languages. Thank you for making my point. But even Canandians got caught up in a language bigotry issue, in Quebec, back in the Reagan years.

Yes, you do come across as bellicose about the English language. Everyone, individually, learns languages at different rates. I have friends with Italian, German, Armenian, Spanish, El Salvadorian (etc.) grandmothers, who, to this day, can't speak English - their grandchildren speak it for them.

How many languages do you speak, Red? And how fast do you suppose you could learn a new one starting as of today?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165384165611739302006-12-05T21:49:00.000-08:002006-12-05T21:49:00.000-08:00Mudkitty, you are purposely being obtuse. No one ...Mudkitty, you are purposely being obtuse. No one is afraid of another language. What makes this a cohesive country is the speaking of one language. This language being English.
I work with children who speak Spanish, Chinese, Samoan and East Indian languages at home. They all speak English in school. They look different, have different customs, but what they have in common is their new country and their new language. This allows them to blend together - UNITE, as AMERICANS. They feel part of everything around them without giving up who they are.
If we are trying to accomodate Mexico, then why are we not learning French? You do realize, not all Canadians speak English as a first language, don't you?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165375134500870692006-12-05T19:18:00.000-08:002006-12-05T19:18:00.000-08:00Are you making the ridiculous assumption that I am...Are you making the ridiculous assumption that I am saying ONLY Emglish should be spoken in the US?Indigo Redhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17906787350123925867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165372828301705262006-12-05T18:40:00.000-08:002006-12-05T18:40:00.000-08:00I like English just fine, just not to the exclusio...I like English just fine, just not to the exclusion of other languages, and I don't see why people are threatened by other languages. ILLEGAL ALIENS...I think mudkitty missed the point. ILLEGAL ALIENS are being given a status (citizenship) instead of earning it.
I wonder if being granted citizenship will allow these illegals the same feeling of accomplishment that our Grandparents got when they EARNED their citizenship. There is great honor in becoming a citizen and blending into the melting pot to become an American. No one has been asked to give anything up - just speak English in America as a first language and don't expect everyone else who has forgone their original countries flag flying above thier home to become a Spanish speaking American.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165349576983190172006-12-05T12:12:00.000-08:002006-12-05T12:12:00.000-08:00Like it or not, English is the language spoken in ...Like it or not, English is the language spoken in common in the United States and will be for a very long time. To effectively communicate in this country, one must speak English. Simple fact of life.

Even France has now come to the inescapable conclusion that English is the lingua franca del mundo. This month French Television will begin a broadcast channel in English.

The original immigrants who now claim to be natives, spoke coherent languages with roots in languages spoken today throughout the Indo-European world. Don...So now you're advocating making lots of money. Don't you understand the more money one person makes is less money for another. That is wholly unequal and capitalistic to the extreme.

The American Dream (whatever the hell that is!) is located in the United States. When people in other parts of the world are asked where they would like to go and they say, "America", I hardly think they are talking about Ecuador. Canadians do not travel around the world saying, "I'm an American!" To the entire world (except certain places populated by liberal loons), America IS the US.

And I don't give a damn what language is spoken in the rest of the American continent. English is spoken here. Let me also remind you that not only are English speaking Americans not natives to the Ameriacn Continent, neither are the Spanish, Portugese, or French speaking Americans. So don't be trying to tell me they have some kind of superior claim.Indigo Redhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17906787350123925867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12392119.post-1165286615219283182006-12-04T18:43:00.000-08:002006-12-04T18:43:00.000-08:00It's good you said the United States OF America. ...It's good you said the United States OF America. Because much of the Americas have long spoken Spanish. America, being a continent, not a nation. And let's face it, most people who speak two languages or more, make more money than those who don't, and therefore have greater access to the American Dream.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
