A Christmas Story

A couple winters back, I bought a cashmere sweater at a thrift shop. It was in perfect condition and only $2. Now it has little holes in the front from a little bug that had a nice meal. I didn't want to throw it out so I cut off the sleeves to have a cashmere undershirt. It's soft and warm and no one can see the little holes.

Today, my baldy-head was cold, so I put one of the sleeves on my head - it looks like an old time sleeping cap. Later, I had to go to market and wore it in the car then forgot I had it on. While choosing some meat, a man approached me and asked if I was one of Santa's elves. I said, "I could be..." because I was also wearing my old man half-glasses down low on my nose, and with the beard, yeah, I probably looked like an elf. Plus, nobody should really know who's an elf and who isn't . He continued saying he had been standing near a mother with two young boys about 4 and 5 when they saw me. He said the kids pointed at me and one breathlessly said, "Look, Momma! It's a Santa elf!"

I only wanted to warm my head, but ended up having my heart warmed, too.

Welfare Payments Exceed Median Earned Income

Welfare spending/ day/ poverty household is $168.00. The median income/ day of income earners is $137.00.  Broken down per hour, welfare spending/ hour/ poverty household is $30.60. Median income earners make $25.02/ hour. Why would anyone not already in the top 2% want to work at all?

This is not sustainable in anyone's econ book and is one of the reasons Stalin killed 50 million of his own people, almost all of them poor peasants.

Celebs Find Out What it's Like to Live Downwind From Them

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- The decaying corpse of a huge fin whale was a sad spectacle Friday on the shore of a cove where it washed ashore nearly a week earlier.

With no government agency taking action to remove the rapidly rotting mammal from Little Dume beach, it appeared that the job would be left to decomposition and nature's scavengers.

The 40-foot-long, 40,000-pound juvenile male washed ashore Monday near Point Dume, which marks the western end of Santa Monica Bay, about 30 miles west of downtown Los Angeles.

The homes and estates of celebrities and other wealthy line the cliffs high above the slender beach. Access is extremely limited and curious beachcombers had to hike on the sand from the few public parking lots farther up the beach.

WooHoo! We're on a roll! We'll be a banana republic in no time, that is if the EPA allows banana farming.

Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941

Fans in a Flashbulb

“Brought from his bed by the thunder of exploding bombs, this pajama-clad islander has rushed out on his terrace to scan with binoculars smoke-swept scene. Back and forth Jap planes roared, while at Pearl Harbor other bombs were falling from other planes,” December 7, 1941
