$75,000 Renoir Painting Bought at $7 Flea Market

“There was a plastic cow that grabbed me, and a Paul Bunyan doll,” said the woman who bought the 6-inch by 10-inch, 1879 Renoir canvas, 'Paysage Bords de Seine' ...And I liked the frame. It was gold and ornate. I thought I could use it for something else if I cut out the painting.”

Despite the nameplate that says "Renoir," the Virginia buyer didn't think the painting was real enough to have checked out for 18 months while she stored the painting in the trunk of her car and after that, in a shed with a broken window. I swear, American teachers have been on strike for a hundred years.
