Mullah Omar Dead?

Mullah Omar, the spiritual leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan is being reported as dead by several news outlets. As Head of the Supreme Council in Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001, he granted sanctuary to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida while the latter group plotted the 9/11 attack.
NZ Herald:
Mullah Omar was shot dead as he was being moved from Quetta to North Waziristan two days ago, according to Afghan news outlet TOLOnews.
FARS:
"Mullah Mohammad Omar has been killed and his body is under postmortem studies at the coroners' office," a senior Afghan official told FNA this morning on the condition of anonymity.
Channel 6 News:
Two spokesmen for the Afghan Defense Ministry and Afghan President Hamid Karzai were both unable to confirm or deny the report. "Just like you, we heard it on a local TV. I don't know how much truth is there in this," Karzai's spokesman said.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was also unable to confirm or deny Tolo News' report. "[We have] no reporting on our end. We've just heard the same media reports and are looking into them," an ISAF spokesperson said.
The Times of India:
Meanwhile, a security official confirmed the killing, saying: "It is correct that Mullah Omar has been killed."

But he did not disclose details.
Or, maybe it's a ruse to throw the good guys off the track.

Reuters:
"He is in Afghanistan safe and sound," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location. "We reject these baseless reports that Mullah Mohammad Omar has been killed."
