Pelosi/Spielberg Rebrand Democrat Fiction

Soon-to-be-former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has contacted professional fiction writers to rewrite the public image of herself and the Democrat Party.
Lawmakers say she is consulting marketing experts about building a stronger brand. The most prominent of her new whisperers is Steven Spielberg, the Hollywood director whose films have been works of branding genius. Lawmakers said Spielberg has not reported to Pelosi with a recommendation.
I'm thinking a rewrite - Pinko and the Brain, genius mouse and stupid sidekick try to conquer the world each day and night. Talks are in the works to get Harrison Ford to play Miss Nancy.

A Liberty Tree Dies in Brooklyn

Mohammad and Obama sing duet:

Sharia . . .
The most beautiful sound I ever heard:
Sharia, Sharia, Sharia, Sharia . . .
All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word . .
Sharia, Sharia, Sharia, Sharia . . .

This is the city. Brooklyn, NY. Once it was a decent town, but only once and never again. Once church bells could be heard throughout the city, but no longer. Church bells are a violation of noise ordinances. The Muslim call to prayer is not, however, a violation of those noise ordinances because Obama says the call to prayer is the most beautiful sound he's ever heard. Sharia, Sharia, Sharia, Sharia . . .

Its Not the Earmarks, Its the Pigs at the Trough

Last Friday night was a big date night for Americans. The monstrous $1.2 trillion Senate Omnibus bill of 1900+ pages containing 6,714 earmarks worth $8.3 billion was rejected over the objections of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Wielding his pocket Cato Institute Constitution like a feudal mace, Reid declared earmarks to be simple "congressionally-directed spending". And he's right. Approving earmarks is the job of Congress - earmarks to build a new fleet, earmarks to rebuild the national transportation system, earmarks that benefit the general welfare not earmarks to improve lighting in any small town central square.

David Boaz at the Cato Institute maintains it's not the earmarks that are the problem; the problem is the congressional pigs at the trough unable to distinguish between the general welfare and garden variety welfare giveaways and the voters who continually vote for themselves other people's money.
The fundamental problem is not earmarks. It is that the federal government is paying for clearly local and state responsibilities. Opponents of excessive spending should not stop at an earmark ban. They should insist that the federal government pay for national needs and leave state and local projects to the states and towns that want them.

TSA Scanners Turned Off?

That's what fliers are telling Gizmodo- no scanners, no pat downs.
"According to tweeting travelers, many backscatter and millimeter-wave AIT scanning machines at airports are not in use at all..."
msw tweets -
Through TSA checkpoint at SEA in 10 minutes flat. Many backscatter scanners are off. No scan, no pat down.
Gizmodo asked TSA:
The TSA Press Secretary Nicholas Kimball responded to my inquiry—"Was there any sort of TSA-wide policy to not use the machines today or is this an airport-by-airport decision?"—with this statement: "No. Nothing to this at all."
Of course, not everyone goes through the full security search at every airport, but did the threat of a nationwide opt-out protest force TSA to cave on its demand of search or no fly? Or, did TSA figure it was just too late for terrorists to put together an attack. We may never know.

Very American TSA Protests

In Man Strips to Calvin Kleins to Avoid TSA Grope on Monday, I wrote, "Everybody flying should strip down to speedoes and bikinis at every American airport."

Well, it's happened.

Jon and Eric Blog, You Tube
Jon and Eric write-

My friend Jimmy successfully navigated a TSA security checkpoint in a speedo at the Salt Lake City International Airport on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 with the words, 'SCREW BIG SIS' written on his back. The goal was to carry out an act of protest that was both effective and gutsy but at the same time immune to any punitive reaction from the TSA. This way we hope to inspire other normal citizens to take a stand against these ridiculous policies and protest the TSA especially during this busy holiday season.
Why the speedo? With the way TSA screening is going it only seems like the next logical requirement for getting on an airplane. Soon TSA will be having us strip down to make the screening process more efficient, but not if we take a stand. In this sense Jimmy was merely obliging the TSA, but he was also exposing the ridiculousness of their policies. With the full-body scanners and TSA agents putting their hands down our pants, let's be honest, a speedo is pretty modest.
At LAX, NBC Los Angeles interviewed Corinne who showed up wearing a long coat and a black bikini.

View more news videos at:

"I'm wearing my bikini," Corinne said as she unbuttoned her overcoat outside the terminal to reveal a black two-piece. "It's not that I'm concerned, it's that I feel like the TSA is making travelers feel uncomfortable, and I feel like we can have security measures that don't make people feel uncomfortable.

"Every time I go through security I always say, 'I don't even know why I got dressed this morning.' I end up taking off belts, jewelry and everthing else off anyway."

"I don't want to do a body scan, and I'm hoping by wearing a bikini they will see everything they need to see and we can avoid a pat-down, as well."
I've also heard reports of men wearing kilts to avoid grope search, though I've not heard if the wearin' of kilt is in the Scots manner. It seems the protest against TSA search methods are more creative than simply refusing the pornscan. How I love Americans!

N. Korea Shells S. Korea

North Korea is wanting more stuff from Western powers. That has been the reason NK has threatened S. Korea in the past. This time NK has actually fired upon S. Korea with 200 artillery rounds hitting an inhabited island, Yongpyeong, wounding 4 soldiers and 2 civilians.

CNN reports:
At least 200 rounds of artillery hit an inhabited South Korean island after the North started firing about 2:30 p.m. local time, Yonhap said.

South Korea's military responded with 80 rounds of artillery and deployed fighter jets to counter the fire, the report said.

The South Korean army also raised its alert condition, the report said.
Reuters adds that 60-70 homes are on fire on the disputed maritime border area island and plumes of smoke have been broadcast on YTN television.

"Houses and mountains are on fire and people are evacuating. You can't see very well because of plumes of smoke," a witness on the island told YTN.

"People are frightened to death and shelling continues as we speak," the witness said. (...)
South Korea's military confirmed the exchange of firing, without providing more details.

The attack comes just as a U.S. envoy is traveling to the region after revelations that the North is moving ahead with uranium enrichment, a possible second path to manufacture material for atomic weapons.
How much you want to bet Obama caves to North Korean demands? Just like all the U.S. presidents back to Clinton.

Back When Nuclear Destruction Was Our Only Worry

When I was a boy, we lived on a turkey ranch out on Lone Star Road just off Hwy 49, ten miles north of Auburn, California. Thousands of turkeys were raised to market there and were shipped all over the western states for Thanksgiving dinners. We had our pick of the best free-range, mostly organic birds.

My Dad and Uncle would have already picked out 2 or 3 turkeys weeks before Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving the final choices were made and Dad would break the turkey's necks, hang them by the feet, cut their throats to bleed them. Then he'd cut off the heads, pull the feathers off, setting the naked birds on the ground. Within minutes, the dead naked headless turkeys would get to their feet, run around and never hit anything. After a time, they'd fall over truly dead.

In the morning, Mom and my Aunts would cook the fresh turkeys that were so large my Dad and Uncle had to lift the birds in and out of the oven that didn't have enough space to close the door so it took extra long to cook. By late afternoon, the house was very hot, very crowded, and smelling very good. Time to eat...

Man Strips to Calvin Kleins to Avoid TSA Grope

We all knew it would come to this.
When a San Diego man opted out of security screening using the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) at Lindbergh Field Friday, he stripped down to his underwear in an attempt to avoid the pat-down procedures.

Samuel Wolanyk took the protest started Nov. 13 by Oceanside's John Tyner to a whole new level.
Through a statement released by his attorney Sunday night, Wolanyk said "TSA needs to see that I'm not carrying any weapons, explosives, or other prohibited substances, I refuse to have images of my naked body viewed by perfect strangers, and having been felt up for the first time by TSA the week prior (I travel frequently) I was not willing to be molested again."

Wolanyk's attorney said that TSA requested his client put his clothes on so he could be patted down properly but his client refused to put his clothes back on. He never refused a pat down, according to his attorney.

Wolanyk was arrested for refusing to complete the security process and for recording the incident on his iPhone, according to his attorney.
[NBC San Diego]
But not indecent exposure. Everybody flying should strip down to speedoes and bikinis at every American airport.

UPDATE: And then there's this story from St Thomas, US Virgin Islands -

Ryan Kulyik, a Schnitt Show listener, was traveling to Tampa from St. Thomas on Sunday, Novermber 21, when he entered the airport security line. As he approached the metal detectors, the listener noticed a man in his underwear standing next to baggage screening.

According to the listener, the man had set off the metal detector a number of times. It is unclear whether the TSA agent asked the man to remove the items from his pockets or to remove his pants.

Even a Fool Like Maher is Right Some of the Time

Bill Maher, along with Jon Stewert and Stephen Colbert, is a comedian who has gained far to much political weight to influence public opinion. However, even as a left leaning buffoon he can quite accidentally bumble into a truth. British newspapers recently announced that Muhammad was the most popular name for boys in Great Britain, overtaking 'Jack'. This should not be a surprise given the rapid increase in Muslim population and because the name has been moving up in popularity for several years - last year it was number three.

The typically liberal apologist Maher wondered aloud to his guests,
"Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that? Because I am. And it’s not because of the race, it’s because of the religion. I don’t have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?"

Of the four guests, Margaret Hoover was the only one who had a cogent answer and one that caught Maher by surprise, exposing his ignorance of things Islamic. The Hoover/Maher exchange went like this -
Hoover: "I think England has far bigger problems with Islam than they do with names of their children. I think sharia law being institutionalized in England is probably a bigger problem than...

Maher: Sharia law is being institutionalized in England?!

Hoover: Yeah! It's a parallel... it's a legal system in England. That's a bigger problem than kids named Muhammad.

Maher: Well, then I'm right! I should be alarmed and I don't apologize for it."
That Bill Maher, who is held up by the Left and himself, as a beacon of truth and knowledge, should be surprised by the fact Sharia compliant law exists in Great Britain is far more important than whether or not Maher is a racist.

Sharia law has been a part of the British justice system for several years already. British newspapers have headlined the debate since 2004 and the first sharia court was instituted in 2007. Unofficially, sharia courts had been active for years before, but without civil authority to uphold decisions. A BBC report in September 2008 illustrated how Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was pilloried in early 2008 for saying in a speech the inclusion of sharia in British jurisprudence was unavoidable.

The Times Online also reported in September 2008,

ISLAMIC law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.

In July, the head of the judiciary, the lord chief justice, Lord Phillips, further stoked controversy when he said that sharia could be used to settle marital and financial disputes.

In fact, Muslim tribunal courts started passing sharia judgments in August 2007. They have dealt with more than 100 cases that range from Muslim divorce and inheritance to nuisance neighbours.

It has also emerged that tribunal courts have settled six cases of domestic violence between married couples, working in tandem with the police investigations.
There's another point of which Maher seems unaware. He says he does not want the western world taken over by Islam in 300 years. It will not take 300 years or even close to 300 years at current population replacement rates. For a culture to secure itself for just 25 years, it must maintain a fertility rate of 2.11 live births per woman. The current birthrate in Great Britain is only 1.92 while the birthrate for Muslims is closer to 8.10 live births per woman. There is no western developed nation with a birthrate up to 2.0, all are below and it will take more than 25 years to get the rate equal to replacement levels and then to exceed that. Demographically, Western culture is destroying itself.

For the great mind of Bill Maher to be surprised by the facts presented by Margaret Hoover is inexcusable, but neither is it surprising in itself. Such information runs counter to Leftist narratives that all people are the same, that all they want is to live in peace and harmony; all religions are either equally peaceful (except Christianity and Judaism) or equally insane (especially Christianity and Judaism); if the peoples of the world were left alone, without the influence of religion and Conservatives, the world would be a much more peaceful and wonderful place where all people can live out their bliss in Utopia.

Of coarse, Utopians also brought us Graham Crackers that were meant to prevent masturbation amongst the nation's youth demonstrating that even Utopia isn't perfect because we all know how well anti-masturbation worked out. Just ask an anti-O'Donnell Leftist.

Democrats Air More Negative Ads Than Republicans

This mid-term election cycle ends in a few days and like me, you're probably sick and tired of the campaign ads, especially the negative ads. On Friday's Oct. 25 ABC News, Jonathon Carl said,

As you watch this year’s ads — and I’ve been watching all too many lately — you’ll notice a striking difference between Democratic and Republican attack ads: Democrats are attacking over personal issues, Republicans are attacking over policy.
(ABC News, Segment 2 at 12:44 mark)

Near the end of Carl's report, he says that 51% Democrat ads are personal negative attacks while 69% of Republican ads are policy negative attacks ads. They may be negative ads, but there seems to be a difference.

Wesleyan Media Project, quoted by Carl in his report, has toted up the positive/negative political ads used per party between January 1 and October 5, 2010.
In 2010, pro-Democratic ad sponsors focused on the personal characteristics of Republican candidates in 21% of their attack ads. This is up from the 12% of Democratic attack ads in 2008 that were focused on personal characteristics. Republicans have mentioned candidate characteristics in 11 percent of their attack ads this year.

"The use of personal attacks actually makes sense for the Democrats this year," said Michael Franz, co-director of the Wesleyan Media Project and associate professor of government at Bowdoin College. "The issue environment does not really favor them, in that many Obama policies are unpopular, so many Democrats are choosing to point out the personal foibles of their opponents."

What This Country Needs... safer lethal injection drugs.

That's the position of Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan according to the LA Times.
Justice Elena Kagan cast her first recorded vote on the Supreme Court late Tuesday, joining the liberals in dissent when the high court cleared the way for the execution of an Arizona murderer.

The 5-4 ruling overturned orders by a federal judge in Phoenix and the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that had stopped the execution by lethal injection of Jeffrey Landrigan.

His lawyers, in a last-ditch appeal, had raised questions about one of the drugs used in the execution. Since the only U.S. manufacturer of sodium thiopental had suspended production, Arizona officials said they had obtained a supply of the drug from a British company.

A judge had put the execution on hold because she said she was "left to speculate" whether this drug was safe for its intended use.

However, the Court majority (Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Anthony M. Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr.) wrote,

"There is no evidence in the record to suggest that the drug obtained from a foreign source is unsafe," the justices said, and "speculation cannot substitute for evidence that the use of the drug is 'sure or very likely to cause serious illness and needless suffering'."
Once I thought it odd the execution lethal injection prep required swabbing the injection spot on the condemned's arm with alcohol. If safer lethal injection drugs are required by the courts, swabbing would be understandable as we wouldn't want the condemned to die from any unforeseen infection. That would be cruel.

It's Thanksgiving Day in Canada

Today is being celebrated in the US as Columbus Day because it provides a three day weekend. If it weren't for the worker's penchant for meaningless three day weekends, tomorrow would be the celebrated day as that is when Columbus and his crew first sighted the New World. Nevermind that others had been here before Columbus, Chris gets the credit because he did a much better marketing job and folks back home were ready for a new world.

However the day is celebrated in the US, to our northern neighbors in Canada it is Thanksgiving Day. As it is here, Thanksgiving Day is the one day a year set aside for remembering the blessings of inheritance. The editors of the Edmonton Sun had a few words well worth reading.
Even on Thanksgiving Day, it is easy to find innumerable things to complain about if only focusing on the small picture.

The big picture, however, should be the key focal point on a day such as today, but it is too often barely considered or, worse, taken for granted.

Instead, it's the small things in life that too often block the view and the viewpoint.

As the late U.S. beat generation poet Charles Bukowski so aptly put it in this classic rant, "It's not the large things that send a man to the madhouse ...

"But a shoelace that snaps with no time left."

Ain't it the truth?

The big picture, however, is where the focus should be as family and friends gather to celebrate the blessings of which Thanksgiving Day is designed to remind us.

If we actually give pause to ponder them.

First, we live in a great country, and whether by birth or by choice, the overwhelming majority of us would not trade Canada for any other country in the world.

No law, no Berlin-like wall, and no dictatorial government exist to inhibit our freedoms or the freedom of our press.

We can come and go as we please.

We live in a democracy.

We also live along the world's longest undefended border because we have the best neighbour anyone could ask for -- strong and powerful yet, since making its retreat from a skirmish known as the War of 1812, non-threatening to our overall sovereignty as well as arm's-length protectors of backs.

We can love or hate their politics, or the context of their conflicts, but we cannot say the Americans are bad neighbours.

We are blessed by what sustains life, the cleanest air on the planet and, while we make up only .05% of the world's population, we hold ownership over 20% of its fresh water.

And then there's our total resource bounty.

Ownership of it means a future not beholding to foreign entities, or susceptible to their threats or intimidations in order to heat our homes, for example, or steel our girders to embrace tomorrow's challenges.

That, too, is something to be thankful for.

And envied.
The citizens of the two nations, Canada and America, jab and jibe, bust chops and balls, insult and joke their is not a pair of nations that have been better neighbors without a fence than Canada and America. Canada was there flying cover over America on 9/11 and was first to respond to the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina without invitation and even before our own first reponders could get permission to go to work.

On this, the Canadian Thanksgiving Day, I would like to say Thank You, Canada. Thank you.

NiqaBitches Walk the Streets of Paris

Two French women took to the streets of Paris to protest the recent law banning the wearing of the hijab/niqab. The ban at one level is an attempt to preserve the national French character and to stem the tide of Islamification. There are also security concerns as demonstrated recently when male criminals wore burqas in the commission of a Marseilles robbery. The two women are 20 years old, university students, and one is Muslim.

On the French language news site, Rue89, the women have this to say (via Google Translation) -
Darth Vader and freedom of expression
Let us say frankly, to cover her face, take the appearance of Darth Vader in the name of Islam and its teachings ... we do not really understand!

We heard that the Republic was an area of free expression in which everyone could choose to dress and practice his religion as he sees fit, as it does not force anyone to adhere to his convictions.

So we're told by what right this woman in niqab cross yesterday in the subway no longer have the right to move in public space in spring 2011? This law is absurd (and seems difficult to apply)!

The police themselves are clearly opposed to this legislation will only increase social tensions in neighborhoods that could do without.

Political hypocrisy
The aspect of the debate that has most challenged, beyond of the injustice that emerges from this law is the hypocrisy of French politicians who wave the feminist flag sacrosanct pretext of defending the poor veiled women by force by their husbands wild.

It's very nice for them huh, thank you! But do we really need a special law burqa to remind us that it is illegal to force someone to do anything against his will? We dictate the way we dress would therefore become the role of the state (as if they had no other fish to fry ...)
After going on about fashion freedom and advising people to reread Max Weber's "Monopoly on Violence", NiqaBitch finishes with the hard truth the even she cannot deny.
Alibi safe
Ultimately, the only justification "acceptable" such a law would be that the security issue. It is actually easy to hide behind a burqa to commit a crime. Presumably the
"niqabraquage" of August .

But these people thought they would have to be covered with a veil rather than putting a hood if the debate on the law did not beat this fulltime?
On their You Tube NiqaBitch page, this alibi is reiterated in reply to questions from the commenter 'sunsdotcom' when explaining why their eyes were blurred.
1 day ago @NiqaBitch

1) did france ban the niqab or burka?
2) why did you blur the eyes of the girls in mini-burka during close ups? afraid of getting recognized by fellow muslims and the consequences that follows once you are identified?
3) it's very nice of you to cover the eyes of the males looking. In a way, you are putting their lives at potential risk too if some crazy brother wants to do them harm for oogling.

1 day ago @sunsdotcum Hello.

1. France voted the law banning the niqab from public spaces, it will be effective this spring.
2. We blurred our eyes because we want to stay anonymous. We don't want people to know our identities because it's not the point of the action, but also for security reasons. :)

Hope we gave you the answers your were expecting.

Navy Helos Take Dip in Tahoe

Two Navy aircrews from North Island’s Helicopter Maritime Strike 41 squadron flying the Navy's newest state-of-the-art helicopters, MH-60 Romeo, home from an airshow at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA., stopped for a dip at Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. Whatever their reason, the dunking caused $50,000-$500,000 in damage to the $33 mil aircraft.
SAN DIEGO -- Two Navy helicopter pilots from North Island Naval Air Station have been grounded over a YouTube video that allegedly shows them dipping the $33 million aircrafts into Lake Tahoe.

In the video taken Sept. 13, both helicopters hit the water and one seems to spin out of control and crash into the water before its pilot apparently pulls the craft back into the air.

A Navy spokesman confirmed that the video was genuine footage of two MH- 60 Romeo helicopters from North Island's Helicopter Maritime Strike 41 squadron, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
The air crews could face administrative action and the pilots could lose their flying qualifications. The mission of the MH-60 Romeo is to fly over open ocean for anti-ship/submarine warfare. Though not designed to land on water, these pilots proved the MH-60 can walk on water.

UPDATE: NBC News w/Brian Williams reports tonight the pilots were trying to photograph each other's chopper hovering over the water. While not shown, both aircraft pilots misjudged the hover height and hit the water. In short, two Navy pilots were hotdogging in multi-million dollar taxpayer equipment.

Runaway Slave is a new documentary that exposes the economic slavery of the Black community to the Progressive policies of the US government and how Black Conservatives lead the fight so all Americans can be "free at last."

C.L. Bryant is a Runaway Slave.

Former NAACP leader and self-professed "Democratic Radical," C.L. escaped from the bondage of Progressivism and the shackles of entitlements to secure the blessings of liberty guaranteed by our founding document, the US Constitution.

Follow C.L. as he traces the footsteps of runaway slaves through the Underground Railroad. He travels into the heart of Black communities across the US from the slave ports of New Orleans to Chicago's Cabrini Green to Martin Luther King's birthplace, Atlanta, on to Jefferson's Monticello; the film explores how 95% support of the Democratic Party has impacted the Black community.

Through interviews with politicians and everyday Americans and footage from national events, the film seeks to answer the question: Is the Black community "free at last?"

Castro Misinterpreted, Fires 500,000 Workers

After telling The Atlantic magazine’s Jeffrey Goldberg, "The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore," Fidel Castro is claiming he was misinterpreted. Not that Castro didn't say those words, Castro admits to the comment. Castro is claiming the Dan Rather defense - fake but accurate, only in reverse. He says his comment is true, but inaccurate.

Castro now says he meant exactly the opposite from what he actually said. The Latin American Herald Tribune reports:
Fidel Castro said Friday that when he told a U.S. journalist the Cuban economic model no longer works he really meant to signal the failures of capitalism.

“How could such a system (capitalism) work for a country like Cuba?” he asked rhetorically during an event at the University of Havana to present his latest book.

"The truth is that my response signified the opposite of what both U.S. journalists interpreted about the Cuban model,” Fidel said Friday.

“My idea, as everyone knows, is that the capitalist system no longer works for the United States or for the world, since it leads to crises that are ever more global and frequent,” he said.
Reuters is suggesting the incident was a trial balloon to test whether people will accept any possible changes to the Cuban Revolution.
"We see this in Washington all the time. Somebody floats a trial balloon, it unsettles some people, so they walk it back a little bit," he said.

"I think the underlying reality supports absolutely that the Cuban government has recognized that the Cuban model doesn't work, so they're looking for another model," he said.
Cuba announced Monday that 500,000 of the 5.1 million official work force, 10% of workers, could be out of a job beginning immediately with lay-offs continuing through April 2011. Restrictions on private enterprise are to be eased to allow more job opportunities for the laid-off government workers, according to the AP.
To soften the blow, the statement ... said the government would increase private-sector job opportunities, including allowing more Cubans to become self-employed. They also will be able to form cooperatives run by employees rather than government administrators, and increasingly lease state land, businesses and infrastructure.

Castro has long complained that Cubans expect too much from the government, which pays average monthly salaries of just $20 but also provides free education and health care and heavily subsidizes housing, transportation and basic food. Because unemployment is anathema in a communist society, state businesses have been forced to carry many people who do almost nothing.

"Our state cannot and should not continue supporting businesses, production entities and services with inflated payrolls, and losses that hurt our economy are ultimately counterproductive, creating bad habits and distorting worker conduct," the union said.
Exactly how a society unaccustomed to self-employment is to acclimate to private enterprise, the Castro Bros left unexplained. As the Old World Communist countries turn to old fashioned mercantilism and western capitalism, Obama leads America further down the rabbit hole of socialist utopianism. The Marxist teachers have changed the syllabus and Obama didn't get the memo.

Two Sides of History

Every story has many sides depending on how one interprets the facts and history is no exception. Politics, however, provides plenty of contranyms, fables, and downright lies.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV, first elected to Congress in 1983), said during ABC News/Washington Post "Top Line" program Tuesday, as reported by WaPo's The Fix, that he was not at fault for the economic downturn.
"I had nothing to do with the massive foreclosures here [in Nevada.]

Reid contended in today's interview that "it would take a real stretch" in order to think that he caused the country's economic problems. Instead, Reid argued, he worked against many of the policies enacted during the administration of George W. Bush that were to blame for the economic crisis.

"I don't have any hand in what took place during the Bush administration. I tried to rein that in," Reid said.
Thomas Sowell remembers the history just a little bit differently in Tuesday's IBD editorial, The Mess Bush Left And Other Obama Fables.

The last time the federal government had a budget surplus, Bill Clinton was president, so it was called "the Clinton surplus." But Republicans controlled the House of Representatives, where all spending bills originate, for the first time in 40 years. It was also the first budget surplus in more than a quarter of a century.

Today, with Barack Obama in the White House, allied with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi in charge in Congress, the national debt is a bigger share of the national output than it has been in more than half a century.

Another political fable is that the current economic downturn is due to insufficient government regulation of the housing and financial markets. But it was precisely the government regulators, under pressure from politicians, who forced banks and other lending institutions to lower their standards for making mortgage loans.

These risky loans, and the defaults that followed, were what set off a chain reaction of massive financial losses that brought down the whole economy. Was this due to George W. Bush and the Republicans? Only partly. Most of those who pushed the lowering of mortgage lending standards were Democrats — notably Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Christopher Dodd, though too many Republicans went along.

At the heart of these policies were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which bought huge amounts of risky mortgages, passing the risk on from the banks that lent the money (and made the profits) to the taxpayers who were not even aware that they would end up paying in the end.

When President Bush said in 2004 that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should be reined in, 76 members of the House of Representatives issued a statement to the contrary. These included Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel.

If we are going to talk about "the policies that created this mess in the first place," let's at least get the facts straight and the names right.
The late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY 1976-2000) once said, "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts." Harry Reid has his own facts, isn't shy about using them, and doesn't care whom he hurts when doing so.

Blood and Gore at Discovery

Al Gore has blood on his hands.

'Al Gore made me do it' was the excuse James Jay Lee used for holding 1900 Discovery Channel workers hostage threatening their lives with firearms and bombs. Lee said at a 2008 protest stunt that he had experienced an "awakening" while watching former VP Al Gore’s environmental comedy "An Inconvenient Truth."
"Nothing is more important than saving ... the Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels. [Oh, my!] The humans? The planet does not need humans."
Also in the building is the Discovery Kids Place day care center. Lee had an opinion of children, too.
Saving the Planet means saving what's left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies!"
Team Gore eco-terrorist Lee was shot dead before he could do any more damage than Al Gore has done. Fortunately, innocents were not killed ... this time. But, that's the problem with unintended consequences - at some point a well intentioned Gore hound is going to injure or kill people in the name of saving lives. And no one can know when does the killing becomes intentional -we had to destroy the planet in order to save it sort of thinking.

The Softer Side of Taliban

Afghan Taliban have gotten a bum rap. The world, the civilized part that is, thinks of them as heartless, humorless brutes and barbarians.

Norwegian journalist Paul Refsdal risked his life to show that is wrong. Between ambushes of U.S. troops on the Khyber Pass, Taliban fighters lounge, eat, sing, and pray together. They enjoy lighthearted banter on the hand radio sets as they shoot at American vehicles, congratulate one another when scoring a hit, and later luxuriate in brushing long hair colored with henna.

And they love the children of their Taliban commander, Darwan. The two tots are well cared for, especially when taken into battle when they are told to take cover. But, who am I to judge? Maybe it was 'take-your-kids-to-work-day'.

Note Sept 1, 2010: There was a video here, Taliban: Behind The Masks, that I have been asked to remove. The request is moot since the video source was also asked to cease and desist by email.

I could not help the pangs of sorrow at the deaths of the two children. I cannot help also feeling relief that the little girl was excused from a life of abuse at the hands of a man four, five, or nine times her age when married off as a child bride and raped in her ninth year. Nor, can I ignore the likely life of the little boy wasted on killing infidels, raping little girls when he is older, and beheading enemies on his twelfth birthday.

Wasted lives all around. Who among these Taliban, children included, may have developed a treatment and cure for any of the innumerable diseases plaguing mankind, or actually made first contact with real galactic aliens illegally crossing solar system borders? What a waste is Islam.

But, hey! At least, they have softer tendencies to freely demonstrate their feminine side. I, for one, feel so much better.

Anti-Mosque Muslim Cabbie

... attacked by pro-mosque activist.
Ahmed H. Sharif, 43, of Queens, was stabbed several times by Michael Enright, 21, of Southeast, N.Y., after Enright asked Sharif if he was Muslim and the cabbie responded with a yes, a police spokesman said.

It should be noted that Enright has ties to a left-wing group that is in favor of the "Ground-Zero mosque" while Sharif actually opposes it being constructed at the current location.

Post Chronicle
As for Enright, Mcauleysworld says
Turns out the highly intoxicated and belligerent Enright supported the Ground Zero Mosque and had worked, as has been documented, with an Interfaith Religious Group that conducted regular outreach programs between Muslims and Christians… that group? Intersections International.

No Cow in Moscow, No Mosque in Ground Zero Mosque

The Ground Zero Mosque is not a Mosque. The GZ Mosque/ Area Park51 supporters have said it so many times I now visualize Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in that scene from Kindergarten Cop, "It's notta Mosque!" Of course, that's not the line, but hey. Anushay Hossain wrote "Park 51: The Ground Zero Mosque Is Not a Mosque" for PuffHo last week in which she said she hoped she could close her eyes, click her heels three times and she'd be with Keith Olberman or something to that effect.
First of all, everyone, especially the media and journalists who repeat the description, must stop calling and referring to this building as the "Ground Zero Mosque." There is no Ground Zero Mosque! As Keith Olbermann [video at 2:30 mark] very eloquently and passionately articulated on his show the other night, a mosque is "a place built for the purpose of gathering for prayer and worship in Islam," whereas the building that is going to be built near (not on) Ground Zero is an Islamic Community Center called, "Park 51," no longer to be called "Cordoba House" for fear of triggering even more misunderstood controversy.

This Community Center plans to house a culinary school, an auditorium, a swimming pool, a basketball court, and yes, space for prayer. But it is not a mosque, so we all need to stop calling it that. Calling this Center the "Ground Zero Mosque" not only makes people think up dramatic images of an actual mosque right on the site of Ground Zero, but it also misconstrues the entire debate.
A prayer space, that's all. And, definitely not a mosque. Park51 website says so.

Ooops! Park51 explicitly calls for a mosque, albeit a separate part of the Community Center - that's what it's being called, just like the Jewish Community Center at Amsterdam and 76th in Manhattan which has no synagogue, shul, or temple on the premises. There are three Jewish worship sites in the general area, but not in the JCC. Park51 proposes a mosque in the same structure separated only by IRS rules. Blonde Sagacity reminds us there is no shortage of mosques in Manhattan, so the cultural center can be at the proposed location and the mosque somewhere else. Just like the JCC.

Now we discover, via Weekly Standard and Islamic Finder, confirms, from Sharif El-Gamal, head of Soho Properties, Inc., and developer, of the Ground Zero mosque -

The House (Musallah)
51 Park Place (Between West Broadway and Church),
New York, NY 10007, USA

"We are trying to establish a full fledged Islamic Center in the lower Manhattan, only 2 blocks from World Trade Center, New York City, NY. It is a neat and clean facility and can accomodate [sic] 1,000 people to pray in Jamat [i.e. collectively] at one time."
From small prayer space in a community center to a 1000 rug mosque in no time flat. To put that in context, Ferrari has corporate spies to discover their sudden speed secret. All I know for sure is that taqiyya is not Mexican finger food.

Computer Whiz Leak History

File under "Real Life Imitates Blogs Imitating Real Life Imitating Blogs". SodaHead posted, "Do you remember when terrorist had red hair and freckles?" June 25, 2009.

Today Pfc. and Howdy Doody look-alike Bradley Manning was named as the mystery man WikiLeaks leaker of 91,000 secret classified documents (15,000 of which have not yet been released) concerning the Afghan War.

Wall Street Journal reports,

The disclosure came as Defense Secretary Robert Gates pledged Thursday to "aggressively investigate the leak" and find ways to prevent further breaches, and told reporters that he had invited the Federal Bureau of Investigation to assist the probe.

Defense officials said the FBI was investigating whether civilians aided Pfc. Manning in providing the information to WikiLeaks, a Web-based group that this week released 76,000 secret reports from Afghanistan.

Pfc. Manning already was charged by the military in July with illegally taking secret State Department files and disseminating a classified video, which defense officials said was the one released by WikiLeaks showing a U.S. military helicopter firing on a group of people in Baghdad. Two Reuters journalists and seven others were killed in the 2007 incident.

The 22-year-old private worked in intelligence operations in Baghdad. He was supposed to be examining intelligence relevant to Iraq, but defense officials said Pfc. Manning used his "Top Secret/SCI" clearance to tap into documents around the world.

A search of the computers yielded evidence he had downloaded the Afghanistan war logs, the defense official said. It isn't clear precisely what that evidence is. Investigators combing through Pfc. Manning's computers also found other classified material that has not been made public, the same official said.
Manning was arrested last May in a similar investigation says Wired on June 26,

Manning, 22, was arrested in late May after he was turned in by a former hacker he befriended online. In chats with ex-hacker Adrian Lamo, Manning claimed he leaked a variety of classified documents, databases and videos to Wikileaks, and described having direct contact with the site’s founder, Julian Assange, beginning sometime after Thanksgiving, 2009. He also said he’d been digging through classified government and military networks for more than a year.
Today, Wired says Manning was also investigated in 2008 for unauthorized You Tube uploads -

An Army private suspected of leaking classified information to WikiLeaks was admonished as a trainee in 2008 for uploading YouTube videos discussing classified facilities, according to an Army official with direct knowledge of the incident.

Bradley Manning, now 22, was three months into his 16 weeks of training as an intelligence analyst when about 25 of his fellow students got together to report him for the videos in July 2008, says the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Manning, who enlisted in October 2007, had completed basic training and was receiving his advanced individual training at the Army’s Intelligence Center of Excellence at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

“It was brought up to his command, and his command took action on that,” says the official. “A lot of his actions back then, you couldn’t tell it would come to what it’s come to now, but it was a red flag.”
20/20 hindsight always sees the red flags.
