Geert Wilders Speaks for Freedom

Geert Wilders had come to Chapman University on another beautiful day in paradise - blue skies, bright sunlight, cool breeze. The Dutch MP was here to show his movie "Fitna" and explain why Western Civilization is in serious danger of disappearance because of Islamic sharia, Muslim immigration and simple demographics.

Act for America, Mission Viejo was there to counter the expected protest from the local Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood apparently had other plans because they never showed up.

But...but, they promised! I was bummed. And I wasn't the only one. Isn't there a Muslim on the planet one can believe?

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch drew a crowd of fans when he arrived to the plaza in front of Memorial Hall. He stood in the shade of a tree talking with the folks who had come out to support Wilders and freedom of speech while they took turns being photographed together with Spencer. Soon after the event Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs had already been contacted by Spencer about the turn out. She writes, "Robert Spencer tells me there was a large turnout of freedom lovers at Chapman Law School in Orange, CA, where Geert Wilders spoke."

After a couple of DVD false starts, the movie began without those annoying popcorn and hotdog ads. From the reactions of those around me, this was the first viewing for most. There were many shocked gasps and expressions of disbelief. I had seen the video within the first six hours it was available on the Internet, recognized its import and downloaded the original version. Very soon after, it was removed from the web by Muslims and their apologists as hate speech.

Geert Wilders is tall, very tall. As a speaker, he is very impressive in both prepared and impromptu remarks, no ummmms, errrs, or misdirection unlike Obama, the purported king of oration. During the Q&A, a questioner who compared him to Paul Revere, asked what Wilders would do about the N. Korean missile launch if he were President. Unequivocally, Wilders answered "Stop them." As I write, the NK missile has been launched and our Dear Leader did nothing. Later, he will write a letter to Kim Jong-Il indicating how very angry we are.

Wilders lives a hard life since the release of FITNA. Five years ago, he gave up his freedom because of the threats against his life made by Muslims and a series of fatwas calling for his head. He currently lives in an endless round of safe houses and varies his schedule frequently. Once, he even stayed in a jail cell to remain alive. He travels under the constant physical guard of a dozen security personnel. Those I saw were all very large men who talk into their sleeves just like the guys on TV and in the movies. They moved with perfect coordination and situational awareness. All I had to experience was an electronic hand wand search to get into the auditorium; small potatoes compared to the life Wilders must lead. It is ironic and sad that the good guys must be searched and protected 24/7 in support of freedom.

MP Wilders was asked what can be done to save ourselves. He suggested (1) a "First Amendment for Europe"; surprise, Europeans have no right to freedom of speech, only a short historical tradition; (2) "Boycott the UN Human Rights Council" which Wilders sees a one of the greatest threats to the freedom of speech everywhere; (3) "Stop all immigration from Islamic countries" to the West; (4) "Keep immigration in national hands", don't allow international rules to bind any nation in pursuit of political correctness; (5) "Be tough" - immigrants must play by our rules; if not, "then there's the door." He reminded the crowd that American soldiers fought and bled to save a "free Europe, not an Islamic Europe."

There is good news. Wilders says the good people of The Netherlands "are getting fed up" with the Islamization of their country. Two and half years ago, he and other like minded people formed the Freedom Party. In their first election, the party won 9 seats in Parliament and a great deal of scorn from the world's leftists. Today, the Freedom Party is the number one party in The Netherlands with 32 seats and that has the opposition very worried. Especially because Geert Wilders could very well be the next Prime Minister.

Recently, the parliamentarian was invited to show Fitna to members of the US Congress. Wilders was very pleased by the opportunity as he had been denied entry to Great Britain a short time before. Although, only three Senators and their staffs viewed the film, the downline impact is much greater as Senators talk to others.

Some of the things Geert Wilders had to say:

If you think things are bad, let me tell you, it's worse.

If my movie had been about Christianity and not Islam, nothing would have happened.

The fight against Israel is not against Israel; it is a fight against all of us.

Talking is seen as weakness [by Muslims].

Islam has only one message - anyone who does not act on ever part of Islam is not Muslim; they are apostate and they must die.

The Communism of the 80's, is the Islam of today.

More than 50% of people in Dutch jails are Muslims; deport them and their families.
At the end of his prepared remarks, Geert Wilders sounded not a little bit like Winston Churchill,
"We will never compromise our freedoms; we will never compromise our liberties. We will never give up; we will never surrender."
In America, we are still searching for our own Geert Wilders.

Stick...Stone...End of the Road

She was called furacão(hurricane) and pimentinha(little pepper). Elis Regina was both and one of the most popular voices of the Brazilian tropicalismo(tropicália) music movement. Also an outspoken opponent of Brazil's dictatorship of the 1960s and 70s, it was her immense popularity that kept her from arrest, prosecution, and certain disappearance.
Elis died in 1982 at 36 years, far too young. It's said she died from an accidental combination of alcohol from the night before and cocaine the following morning. Her funeral had to be held in a soccer stadium to hold the 100,000 people who mourned her passing.

In 1974, she collaborated with Antonio Carlos Jobim to record one of the best Bossa Nova albums, Elis & Tom. From that album came to song, Águas de Março (Waters of March), which many consider the best all-time Brazilian song.

I don't know about that, but I certainly think it's up there with the best. The ending of the video shows the joy with which Elis sang. The interplay between the piano and the lyric that Elis sings brings out the little pepper in her. The lyrics she sings goes like this: "stick... stone... end of the road... rest of a stump... little alone... stick... stone... end of the of a stump... little alone... stone... road... little... alone... stone... road... little... alone... stone... road... I go."

Side-by-side lyrics in Portugese and English are here.

Pvt Dana, US Army

This is my niece Dana. Last week she graduated boot camp in Missouri as a qualified Private in the United States Army. Her graduation gift was this really big truck.

You first met her three years ago in a post that described a phone conversation she had with a boyfriend stationed north of Baghdad. During that phone call, the boyfriend's base was attacked by bad guys, the gates were breached, weapons fire and explosions were heard over the phone.

A while later, Dana joined the Air Force. She trained hard and tried her best, but because of a newly discovered health problem, the AF had to let her go. She could have called it a day and given up. She nearly did. Life got tough. In the end, Dana didn't stop, didn't give in, didn't give up.

She signed with the US Army, but she was overweight and unfit. Dana committed to losing the fat and getting in shape. Her Dad, former Navy, trained with her, they jogged and ran together, stretched and exercised together just to qualify for the Army acceptance day. When the day came, she passed without any question. At boot camp, Dana was ready for whatever the trainers could throw at her. And she succeeded.

Today, Dana is a newly minted Private, US Army. But to little Gabe, she's still Auntie Dana. To me, she is still my niece, and I love her and am very proud of her and her achievement.

And I worry for her because, before this year in out, after basic training in Texas, she will ship out to Afghanistan.

Earth Hour Results in Hospital Deaths

Negative consequences to Saturday's Earth Hour were inevitable. In my post "Turn On Your Porch Light" I wrote that we were to

"turn off all of our electric lights, televisions, radios, computers, refrigerators and freezers, heart monitors, artificial breathing machines, traffic lights, street lights, and SETI transmitter/receivers that are searching for intelligent life in the universe that is so plainly evident as non-existent on this planet."
Well, it happened.

Fifteen Patients Die as Earth Hour Kills Life Support in Hospital

San Francisco, CA – Fifteen patients on life support and in surgery died at San Francisco General Hospital when power was cut for "Earth hour" on Saturday.

The hospital was pleased with their participation in the worldwide celebration of the planet. "We asked all the patients and their families if they were all right with us cutting the power. To a person, they all said as stewards of this planet it was their duty to observe Earth Hour. They knew the risks and were willing to take it," said hospital administrator Lawrence Cho.

Cho said that it was a net gain for planet Earth, despite the deaths. "The dead patients will no longer use any energy, and actually will be turned into energy in our patient incinerator," said hospital administrator Lawrence Cho.

As power was cut in the critical care ward some patients screamed in pain, others died calmly in their sleep. Cho said that most of the medical equipment has battery-powered back up systems, but those were disabled, because hospital officials felt that violated the spirit of Earth Hour.
The hospital intends to learn from this experience and not repeat the same mistakes during next year's Earth Hour.

More Disturbing Than AIG Bonuses

While Obama and Geithner distract our attention with the bailout of evil bankers and robber barons, the firing of the GM CEO by Obama through personal fiat, and bonuses paid by companies like AIG, guess who is paying out bonuses business as usual?

The operation getting the biggest taxpayer subsidy of all - the federal government - pays bonuses to its employees too. This year it plans to hand out about $1.6 billion of bonuses, despite running more than $1 trillion in the red.
Feel better now that government is taking care of lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor?

VP Biden Daughter in Coke Challenge

With a drug war blazing on the US/Mexico border, Vice-President 'Joey Plugs' Biden's own daughter may by helping fund the drug cartels. Ashley Biden reportedly has been videoed snorting cocaine at a party this month in Willmington, Delaware. This can't be good for the current resident of the White House and any connection to drug use. That might explain why The One laughed and giggled his way through last Sunday's interview on 60 Minutes.

The woman is seen putting a red straw into her nostril and snorting lines of white powder. She is then heard to say the line was not long enough. The New York Post writes, the woman on the video "appears to resemble Ashley Biden, 27, a social worker for a Delaware child-welfare agency and a visible presence during her father's campaign for the White House."

The video was made by an anonymous male acquaintance of Ashley who was apparently aware she was being videoed. The videographer had originally asked the NYP for $2mil for the 90 seconds of video, then dropped the price to $400K when the paper refused to pay. A man is seen behind Ms. Biden who Thomas Dunlap, a lawyer representing the seller, identified as a former boyfriend of Ashley Biden.

Joey Plugs, a long time outspoken anti-drug crusader, coined the term "drug czar" during a 1982 campaign for a more forceful "war on drugs." At the recent E-Town Hall Meeting, Resident Obama was asked by Net potheads if legalization of marijuana would help fix the economic crisis, to which The One said 'no, it probably wouldn't'. As a self-admitted cokehead himself, I wonder if he would be more receptive to legalizing cocaine.

Ashley Biden, writes RadarOnLine, has a history of drug use and police contact. While attending college in New Orleans, she was arrested in 1999 for possession of marijuana. The charges were dismissed. The Los Angeles Times reported that Ms. Biden was arrested in 2002 on misdemeanor charges outside a Chicago bar for obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties.

As this scandal gains momentum, Tom Dunlap of the Washington, D.C. firm Dunlap, Grubb and Weaver has dumped his videographer client. Dunlap told RadarOnline Sunday that he did not want to be involved in the case due to the publicity surrounding the incident.

What the hell kind of lawyer doesn't want a high profile case involving high profile persons? Maybe the kind who've been paid a visit by friends of Joey Plugs with shadowy help from Obama operatives. One wonders.

Al Gore Spotlights Earth Hour

Previously on Earth Hour - Inconvenient Truth: Al Gore is Boss Energy Hog 2007, Gore Energy Surge 2008.

How did Al Gore, the father of the Internet, inspiration for the 1970's treacly novel Love Story ("love means never having to say you're sorry"), inventor of Global Warming observe Earth Hour 2009?

The following took place between 8:30PM and 9:30PM, Mar 28, 2009. Drew Johnson of the Tennessee Center for Policy and Research drove by Al's cozy abode at 312 Lynnwood Blvd., Belle Meade, Nashville, TN to see for himself and wrote to his Facebook page.

As most of you know, just over two years ago, my organization, the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, found that the knuckleheaded leader of the global warming alarmism movement, Al Gore, consumes 20 times more electricity in his home than the average American household.

Since Earth Hour was recognized today, Saturday, March 28 from 8:30-9:30pm, I thought I’d see how the hypocritical, fear-mongering former Veep was celebrating at his home.

I pulled up to Al’s house, located in the posh Belle Meade section of Nashville, at 8:48pm – right in the middle of Earth Hour. I found that the main spotlights that usually illuminate his 9,000 square foot mansion were dark, but several of the lights inside the house were on.

In fact, most of the windows were lit by the familiar blue-ish hue indicating that floor lamps and ceiling fixtures were off, but TV screens and computer monitors were hard at work. (In other words, his house looked the way most houses look about 1:45am when their inhabitants are distractedly watching “Cheaters” or “Chelsea Lately” reruns.)

The kicker, though, were the dozen or so floodlights grandly highlighting several trees and illuminating the driveway entrance of Gore’s mansion.

I [kid] you not, my friends, the savior of the environment couldn’t be bothered to turn off the gaudy lights that show off his goofy trees.
Nice to know we can still count on Al to do the right thing, like support his own pet causes whole heartedly, if not hypocritically.

H/T to Matthew Hurtt who also says he cleaned-up Drew Johnson's language a bit for the more genteel set.
