This Obama/Joker poster is popping up around Los Angeles. The identity of the artist is a mystery and know one has claimed credit. Local TV station KTLA reports Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable has challenged the responsible person or persons to have
"the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves... Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery. It is mean-spirited and dangerous. We have issued a public challenge to the person or group that put up the poster to come forth and publicly tell why they have used this offensive depiction to ridicule President Obama.I've got to say I'm a bit miffed that no one had a hissy fit when Further Adventures of Indigo Red published this photo of Obama along with a post titled, "Joker Obama Tightens Grip on Bankers." Clearly, I drew the same conclusion of Obama as the latest poster maker has. Perhaps the lack of concern is the fact that the photo I used is not retouched in any way. I guess that should be expected as I'm no big fish anywhere. Obama still looks like The Joker, though.
As NewsBusters points out, the media said nothing
when Vanity Fair's Politics & Power blog published a somewhat similar visual representation of George W. Bush last July [29, 2008], nobody seemed to complain. In fact, throughout the Bush years, demeaning drawings of the President and Vice President Dick Cheney were quite commonplace.Bush/Joker is a rather tame depiction compared to some of the truly horrid and despicable images the opposition created for eight solid years of the last real president. Though being aware of the images, not one word of offense from President George Bush.
