Mistake 101 - Buzzing NYC and Scaring the Crap Out of People

One would think that after making 100 mistakes in 100 days, the White House resident and frat kids would be all played out, but noooo. They decided buzzing New York City at low altitude in one of the Presidential 747's would be a good photo op and perhaps even fun. Watching the same people who had witnessed the two planes ram the World Trade Towers on 9/11, then watched the Towers collapse taking thousands of innocent souls down with them, run screaming in terror from their office buildings into the streets must truly have been fun. So fun that the NYPD was told not to tell anyone what was going to happen.

Mistake 101. That should be a class Obama could teach.

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

The flyover -- apparently ordered by the White House Office of Military Affairs so it would have souvenir photos of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty in the background -- had President Obama seeing red. He ordered a probe and apologized.

"It was a mistake. It will never happen again," President Obama said.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said,
"Did it show any insensitivity to the psychic wounds New York City has after 9/11? Absolutely. No questions about it. It was quite insensitive."
The cost for just the 747 was about $60,000 an hour. FOX News says,

The 747 plane, with an F-16 escort following close behind, circled the Statue of Liberty and the skyline near the World Trade Center site for about a half-hour. Offices were evacuated. Emergency call centers were inundated. Witnesses reported that the planes were flying dangerously low.

Only military personnel were aboard the 747, Gibbs said. The photo-op cost $328,835, which includes personnel, maintenance and fuel costs, according to the Air Force, which said the hours would have been flown regardless and the expenses accrued on a different mission.
Once again, Obama didn't know anything about the incident, it was... uh, uh... that guy over there, he did it. Deny and blame someone else. Nixon tried that and we know where it got him. So did Clinton.

And you'd think we raised a whole new army/navy/marine force plus all the equipment they shipped when they talk about the cost of the Iraq War.

Not that I think there was no cost, nor that there wasn't plenty of destruction of men and equipment, but the allocation of expenses is also a gimmick. The cost of increased forces due to Reserve forces, plus the hiring of civilians are certainly specific and attributable to the war, but the regular military? We weren't going to be paying them if they weren't in Iraq?

Accounting allocation of expense works for Obama, but not for Bush???

As was said by both Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, and probably Limbaugh and several other people with a public platform, the entire thing could have been Photoshopped for about $3.00! This administration is dumber than my little Beta fish. At least the fish is what the fish is and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Obama and his administration pretend to actually care about this country while their actions prove otherwise. I'm totally burned out on all this hypocrisy!

"I'm totally burned out on all this hypocrisy!"

I'm thinking this is the purpose, we get tired and just go away.

according to some military personnel I know.... Airforce One NEVER takes off without the knowledge of the President.
