A Simple Act of Kindness

Local CFA firefighter David Tree shares his water with an injured Australian koala at Mirboo North after wildfires swept through the region. Suspicions that the worst wildfires ever to strike Australia were deliberately set led police to declare crime scenes Monday in towns incinerated by blazes, while investigators moving into the charred landscape discovered more bodies. The death toll stood at 181. (AP Photo / February 9, 2009)

Have you ever wondered about the correlation between surnames and occupations? I started wondering after hearing about a dentist named Phil Molar. Really. He had a show on dental hygiene on AFN in the late 60s. I thought it was a really cute name for the show - then went to the dental clinic, and learned it was really his name.

Since then, I've noted with some frequency that there can be a connection between the name and occupation.

What else could a man named "Tree" be than a fireman!! A horticulturalist, maybe...but fireman? That works!

I got a kick out of the fireman's name too. I once went to a foot specialist named Dr. Walker.
