Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and an Eight Year Old Boy

At an Ocala, Florida elementary school someone handed out 44 counterfeit $20 bills. One recipient of the mysterious largesse used a bogus twenty to buy lunch. School officials tracked down the kids with the fakes and called the police.

An 8 year old boy was put in the custody of Department of Children and Families for passing the bogus bills. An arrest warrant is out for his guardians (parents?). Who produced the fake cash is still unknown.

Up in Washington, D.C., the Treasury Dept. is set to place Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in conservatorship. Fannie and Freddie are not real people and I cannot explain the names given to two semi-governmental financial institutions. But, they are big names in the mortgage business.

Fannie and Freddie are in big trouble. It seems Fannie and Freddie gave away money to banks and home loan companies which loaned the money to people who couldn't afford to pay back the loans. It was a lot of money. Between the two of them, Freddie and Fannie own or guarantee over $5 trillion in mortgage instruments. Because the money was given to so many people with incomes insufficient for the property loan, dubious incomes, and without any income whatsoever, Freddie and Fannie have incurred combined loses of $14 billion for the past four quarters, that's just one entire year. Right now, they are preparing for another wave of loan defaults.

This is where the Treasury Dept. comes in. The Feds are intent on bailing out the two companies the stock of which have dropped 90% over the past year. U.S. banks and many foreign governments hold stock or debt in the two struggling companies. The failure of Fannie and Freddie would cause financial problems around the globe and well beyond the housing market.

That would be really too bad. But, far worse is the fact that the Treasury Department, as an agency of the U.S. government, gets all of its money from me. Oh, and you, too. In fact everyone in the U.S. who pays taxes gives money to the Treasury Dept and then on to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and on to those people who made bad choices to buy properties they could not afford and further on to the foreign governments which now own the debt. So get used to paying your taxes to France and China and Argentina and Saudi Arabia and Russia and Mexico and ...

The eight year old boy passed out $880 in bad money. Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac have passed out trillions of dollars in bad loans. Who has done the greater harm to the U.S. economy in an attempt to buy friends?

I was blessed by misfortune - John McCain

Photo: John McCain grilling servant for guests at Sedona home.

I've been an imperfect servant of my country for many years. But I have been her servant first, last and always. And I've never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I didn't thank God for the privilege.

Long ago, something unusual happened to me that taught me the most valuable lesson of my life. I was blessed by misfortune. I mean that sincerely. I was blessed because I served in the company of heroes, and I witnessed a thousand acts of courage, compassion and love.

I'm not running for president because I think I'm blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need. My country saved me. My country saved me, and I cannot forget it. And I will fight for her for as long as I draw breath, so help me God.

I'm going to fight for my cause every day as your President. I'm going to fight to make sure every American has every reason to thank God, as I thank Him: that I'm an American, a proud citizen of the greatest country on earth, and with hard work, strong faith and a little courage, great things are always within our reach. Fight with me. Fight with me.

Fight for what's right for our country.

Fight for the ideals and character of a free people.

Fight for our children's future.

Fight for justice and opportunity for all.

Stand up to defend our country from its enemies.

Stand up for each other; for beautiful, blessed, bountiful America.

Stand up, stand up, stand up and fight. Nothing is inevitable here. We're Americans, and we never give up. We never quit. We never hide from history. We make history.
John McCain cannot raise his hands above his shoulders because of the torture he received while fighting in the uniform of his country.

I cannot fight in the uniform of my country because of a circumstance of birth.

John McCain fought for me.

I can raise my hands. I will raise my hands for John McCain. I will raise them high for John McCain.

Obama Threatens Suing Bush to Get White House

The One couldn't buy his way into the White House with terrorist money. He couldn't intimidate his way into the White House by shutting down bloggers, journalists, and anyone else opposing him. He couldn't intellectualize his way into the White House because hard answers to hard question are above his pay grade.

Now Barack Obama may try suing his way into the White House. According to The Guardian, Joe Biden told ABC News, "Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November."

Just amazing!

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said yesterday that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

Biden's comments, first reported by ABC news, attracted little notice on a day dominated by the drama surrounding his Republican counterpart, Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

"If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued," Biden said during a campaign event in Deerfield Beach, Florida, according to ABC.

"[N]ot out of vengeance, not out of retribution," he added, "out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president -- no one is above the law."

Obama sounded a similar note in April, vowing that if elected, he would ask his attorney general to initiate a prompt review of Bush-era actions to distinguish between possible "genuine crimes" and "really bad policies".

"[I]f crimes have been committed, they should be investigated," Obama told the Philadelphia Daily News. "You're also right that I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt, because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve."

Read the whole sordid plot.

Sarah Palin

The next, next President.

I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more.

So did Scott Myers and Judith Gregory in a Wasilla pub.

When the camera cut away to Piper licking her hand to smooth baby Trig's hair, well... I laughed and cried.

I wanted a good speech and got a great speech. Not included in the text and just as important, Bristol was fully realized pregnant with her fiance beside her fully embraced.

Sarah Palin can stand on her own and take the best the of whatever is thrown at her.

To the Liberal loons who say Sarah Palin won't last a week - pfffft!

Levi Johnston has more than one fan in the Palin family.

Levi Johnston Welcomed as Part of Palin Family Onstage in Front of God and Everybody

Levi Johnston departed Alaska this morning on a flight bound for St. Paul, Minnesota, site of the Republican National Convention. He is to join the Palin family on stage after VP nominee Gov. Sarah Palin speaks.

The StarTribune spoke with Sherry Johnston, Levi's mother, in Wasilla

Levi Johnston's mother said her 18-year-old son left Alaska on Tuesday morning to join the Palin family at the convention where Sen. John McCain will officially receive the Republican nomination for president. The boy's mother, Sherry Johnston, said there had been no pressure put on her son to marry 17-year-old Bristol Palin and the two teens had made plans to wed before it was known she was pregnant.
Her only worry was whether or not her son could handle the intense media scrutiny he'll encounter in Minneapolis-St.Paul. Everyone will find out in the next couple of nights.

Bristol and Levi Well Within Their Rights

'She is a teen, only a child.'
'Palin's daughter is only 16 years old.'
'No. She is 17 yrs old, but still only a child.'
'The girl is underage.'
'The boy is 18 years old with an under aged girl. He should be charged with statutory rape.'
'These children are being forced into a shotgun wedding.'

Those are the kinds of claims being made about Bristol Palin, the eldest daughter of VP hopeful Gov. Sarah Palin, and Levi Johnston, the father and fiance. And most of the claims are not true. She is 17 yrs old, and he is 18 yrs old.

(Photo: Levi Johnston and his sister Mercedes)

Although, the National Age of Majority is 18 years, all 50 States have age of consent laws that vary between 16 and 18. Twenty-nine states have laws specifying 16 years old as the age of consensual sex. Seven say it's 17 years and 11 States say 18 years old is the legal limit. And we decry the rate of teen sex and childbirth. Sheesh!

Care to guess the Age of Consent in Alaska? It's 16. We don't have to guess at the ages of the couple in question, we already know. We also don't have to guess how old the fetus is - 5 months in August. That puts conception in the 3rd month, March.

The Daily News reported that Levi and Bristol were already engaged when teammate Jade Johnston, no relation, saw the pair together at a hockey game in January 2008.

So, let's review:

* Alaska age of consent for sexual intercourse is 16 years of age;
* Bristol Palin was 17 yrs old;
* Levi Johnston was 18 yrs old;
* the couple were already engaged to be married in January;
* she is 5 months pregnant with conception in or near March.

Laws broken: 0
Social mores violated: 0, maybe debatable due to religious leanings.
Babies dead from abortion: 0
Anything wrong or out of the ordinary for 21st Century America: 0

TIME magazine's Nathan Thornburgh wrote from Wasilla, AK, "...the details [of Bristol's pregnancy] I picked up almost without trying, while talking about other things with townsfolk — some who know the governor and her family well, some who don't. It was, more or less, an open secret. And everyone was saying the same thing: the governor's 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, the father is her boyfriend, and it's really nobody's business beyond that."

Move along. Nothing to see here.

If Sarah is Bad Mother, Then Michelle is Bad Mother

Over the past few day, Governor Palin has been accused of being a bad mother because her 17 year old daughter, Bristol, is pregnant and unmarried. It's been almost exclusively Democrats and Liberals who have made the accusations. The same bunch which has for decades promoted casual sex are now outraged by causal sex.

Palin is also accused of abandoning her Down's Syndrome child for the glitz and glamour of the campaign road. The very women who have championed the SuperMom who can have career and family are saying Sarah should stay home with her 'sick' child. My bet is those women are the same as those my mother encountered when out with the child me. Those women would tell Mom that she really shouldn't bring 'that' out in public.

So, Sarah Palin is a bad mother.

But, Michelle Obama is a good mother because she has a career and a family. We haven't seen much of Mickey O because, we are to believe, because she has two little girls to care for. Truth is, her outspokenness and controversial views were becoming a liability to Barry O. She was shelved and trotted out for the convention in Denver.

Mickey O gave an interview to Babble Magazine (oh, how appropriate can ya get) in which she described how she juggles family and work.

Michelle Obama

Anita Doberman

Republicans have long fought to be the party of "family values," but Michelle Obama believes Democrats are ready to take on the pro-family mantle – and to back up that talk with action.

Despite a grueling travel schedule, Michelle Obama is first and foremost a devoted parent. She's intent on keeping her children grounded while also supporting her husband's campaign and withstanding intense media scrutiny.

Babble caught up with Mrs. Obama as she visited with working mothers in Virginia. She came off as honest, down-to-earth and proud to be a wife, mother and leader in her own right. We spoke about work-home balance, her secret vice, and why she feels a victory for her husband is a victory for the American family. — Anita Doberman

As a working mother, what sort of sacrifices have you made for your children and your husband? What sacrifices has he made for you?

As every working mother understands, there will always be hard choices that must be made to keep our families happy and whole. But I don't see these choices as sacrifices. I'm happy to make them. Someone has to be focusing on the kids, making them feel safe and grounded, and that's me. And I love that job.

Everything that Barack and I do — all the choices we make — are for the benefit of our two little girls. Barack spends the majority of his time away from his family, on the road, because he is determined to change Washington, so that instead of just talking about family values, we actually implement policies that value families.

He is working every day so that our children — and all of our country's children — will grow up healthy and safe, in a world where they can pursue their dreams without anything standing in their way.

How have you managed to balance career and family?

Like the women I've met across the country, I play many different roles. I'm a wife, a working woman, a daughter, a sister, and a best friend. But most importantly, I'm a mom. No matter where I am — at work, on the campaign trail, you name it — my girls are always on my mind.

Finding a balance between all of these roles is something that I've dealt with throughout my marriage. Barack and I know that we're lucky to have access to the resources we need to hold it together during all of this wonderful chaos.

And Barack and I know that we're particularly lucky to have the greatest resource anyone could have — my mother, who lives nearby and stays with the girls when I'm on the road for my husband. But we know that many families across America aren't that lucky. That's why as president, Barack will make supporting families a priority.

What is the hardest thing you have to do as a mother, especially on the campaign trail?

My staff has been excellent about honoring my commitment to my girls. Still, spending time out on the road instead of at home with them is the hardest thing about campaigning. Whether I'm in Chicago or on the road, they're always on my mind, from the moment I wake up in the morning until right before I fall asleep at night.

What does your husband depend on you for?

Holding everything together and keeping our home in order while he's away. We're each other's best friends and closest advisors.

How are the children taking all the changes, and do you try to insulate them?

Barack and I are very proud of the way the girls have handled themselves during this campaign. Luckily, they're still at an age where they're not that concerned with what's happening with the campaign. When they come home in the afternoons, they don't want to know how my day went — it's more like: "Let me tell you what happened at camp today." There are these two wonderful little people who run around our house and keep us grounded.

We protect them the best as we can. We're figuring it out. We've gotten some great advice from people like Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore, who have been in this situation before and handled it wonderfully.
Michelle Obama leaves her children at home! Oh, under the care of someone not their parent, of course. But it's all okay because Michelle feels bad about it. Her daughters are not old enough to be in 'a family way'. Someday they may be. But instead of getting love and support from Mom and Dad, they may get the phone number of the nearest Planned Parenthood approved abortion clinic. Barry and Mickey don't want their kids 'punished' with a child of their own.

Other than that, the maternal story of Michelle Obama and Sarah Palin sound pretty much alike.

Men and Women Prefer Sarah Over Joe

Gov. Sarah Palin is preferred by 58% of men and 48% of women surveyed in a Rasmussen poll August 30.

Sen. Joe Biden is preferred by 46% of men and 33% of women according to a Rasmussen poll August 24.

If Joe had better political policies, he might have fared better.

Stop the World, It's Raining in Louisiana

Laura Bush addressed the Republican National Convention this afternoon. She introduced the Governors of the Gulf States who spoke to the convention on videotape.

Mrs. Bush notes on the videotape that every Gulf State Governor is a Republican. Could that be the reason for the superb response? During Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Louisiana had a Democrat Governor with Democrat Nagin as N.O. mayor.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal did not have time to record a message because he was too busy herding New Orleans Mayor "Negligent Nagin" to get his people out of town on the buses provided by the Republican leadership.

Incredible Footage! Geraldo Saves Man Not in Danger

Geraldo Rivera, ace reporter for FOX News, and his camera crew videotaped a man in the New Orleans storm water. The man, wearing an orange life vest was attaching a towline to a large gas cannister. Moments later he was pulled back to the Army Corps of Engineers tug "Kent".

Bristol Palin 5 Months Pregnant

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We're proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

With that, Sarah Palin put an end to the Democrat Liberal Leftist rumors and conspiracy theories that baby Trig is actually Bristol's child.

Now the cover up conspiracies begin. Liberals just can't be satisfied, not even after all the Republicans and Conservatives are dead. They will just find some other target - probably their own. Such unhappy people. A McCain aide said,

"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change.'"
Sarah Palin gave birth to a handicapped child and decided early in the pregnancy to keep the child. Bristol Palin is 17 years old and pregnant. She and Levi have decided to keep the baby and provide a home with two parents. Will it work out? Maybe. Maybe not. But that shouldn't be anyone's business beyond the family. Most certainly it should not be fodder for a political campaign.

I don't often do this, but I agree with Daily Kos writer rpj2004,

Let's show some respect here about what Bristol is going through. Yeah, so Sarah Palin advocates abstinence programs, but lets remember Bristol is a real person and none of us would want our children put under the spotlight like this. Any "political gain" can find its way without us in individual voters' families - everybody will hear about this news. I posted this diary to put the rumors to rest.
Sarah and Bristol have owned up to their responsibilities and not cowered under public pressure. They know their values and are holding to them. Maybe Bristol and Levi did make a mistake, but like rpj2004 says, she's "a real person." Real people make mistakes. Real adults take responsibility for those mistakes.

Is Sarah Palin a Bad Mother? You Be the Judge.

No sooner had Sarah Palin been introduced as John McCain's Vice-Presidential running mate, than Democrat liberal leftists began their attacks on Sarah as a "bad mother".

Conservative blogger Bill Hennessy writes at Hennessy’s View,

They’re calling KMOX Radio in St. Louis to give the “bad mother” mantra. Here’s the line: What kind of a woman would leave a newborn and 3 young daughters behind while she campaigns for Vice President of the United States? ... According to Democrats, then, women belong barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. How dare a child-bearing-aged woman aspire to high office. Know your place, woman!

The calls were not organic, but driven by the DNC and the Obama campaign. The calls were scripted and shallow.
Open Salon's Heather Michon, observers,

Wow. It took maybe three hours for the various pundits on the tee-vee to ask The Question: is a woman with five children, including a newborn with special needs, really fit to be Vice President?
Allahpundit says of the Democrat onslaught,
"This is phase one. Phase two will be, “Wouldn’t a strong, responsible, authentic feminist woman have aborted it?”
Andrew Sullivan uses an e-mail from a friend to further the debate.

No sooner did my best friend hear about the Sarah Palin pick than I received an e-mail from her. It said simply: "Sarah Palin is a Bad Mother!"
And the Daily Kossacks are just plain sick.

You be the judge as to whether or not Gov. Sarah Palin can be a good mother and Vice President at the same time. These photos were made Friday, the day Gov. Palin was named McCains running mate. Many more photos are at McCain Blogette

Gov. Sarah Palin accepts VP position as John McCain's running mate from the family's view.

Sarah and Piper Palin working the line. Piper's a natural.

Willow Palin cradles Trig after the introduction ceremony. Trig was born with Down's Syndrome. Sarah and Todd knew of Trigs condition before birth and accepted the child wholly and unconditionally as did his siblings.

Mom has arrived with baby stuff and twin Blackberrys. Trig snuggles into Bristol's shoulder as Willow and Piper look on.

Bristol cuddles Trig as Mom and Piper settle after facing the crowds and press.

Sarah plays with Trig as Bristol looks on.

John McCain takes a caffeine break while Sarah Palin attends to her children.

Trig is held tight by big sister Piper. Cindy McCain is in the blue dress and Todd Palin holds the baby's bottle of milk.

Trig is a lucky little guy to have such caring sisters as Bristol, Willow, and Piper.

Todd, Sarah, Trig Palin with John and Cindy McCain in a family portrait for People Magazine.

As a former crippled child and currently a crippled man, I see nothing that would make Sarah Palin a bad mother. She and her family are well situated to care for a Down's Syndrome child and indeed bring attention to the still unmet needs of the crippled, disabled, handicapped, and whatever other terms that are used to sweep the whole subject out of sight.

There are libtards asking, "i just want to know who she’s going to hand off her sick child to when shes off and buzzing the middle east?" First, Trig is not "sick". He has a genetic disorder, an extra chromosome 21, that makes him a little bit different. His abilities are unknown now and, like all children, his abilities will be discovered as he grows up.

Trig's life will be pretty much like any other child's. He will eat, sleep, and poop (seemingly more than he eats) like any baby. He will learn and develope more slowly, but next year at this time, he will be able to sit up, roll around, laugh, and play with toys, family and friends. Generally, the only real impediments in his life will be morons who think he is "sick" and in need of constant care.

No, Sarah Palin is not a bad mother. Neither is Todd Palin a bad father. They have a challenging future and they are meeting that future with grace and joy and love.

Too bad so many liberals cannot face life with even half the acceptance as the Palins and all those other families who have members with special needs. It's truly pitiable that so many people see Trig and me and thousands of others as the NAZIs phrased it, "life unworthy of life".
