Islam: A Curse to Human Society


"The Life and Religion of Mohammed, The Prophet of Arabia", is amongst my current reading materials. Rev J.L. Menzes, a Catholic priest, wrote his book during 1911 from personal observance and deep study of Islam while living as a missionary in India and published his book a year later.

The evidence Fr. Menezes recorded could be confused with Islam today as practiced by Muslim terrorists as he writes:
"Mohammed posed as the apostle of God, the seal of the prophets; as the destroyer of idolatry; as preacher of one true God, and the reformer of morals: while his life is marked by innumerable marriages; and great licentiousness, deeds of rapine, warfare, conquests, unmerciful butcheries, all the time invoking God's holy name to sanction his evil deeds, ordering prayers and alms deeds and at the same time propagating Islam everywhere by fire and sword."
It is in that paragraph that many Islamic groups, particularly Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today find fault. Of course, any book showing Ubu'l Kassim (Mo'profits real name) in a less than grandiose luminosity is always condemned by Muslims, but never read by them.

The life of Ubu'l is a timeless tale of avarice, intrigue, brigandry, murder, sex, and simple unadulterated power. That the following has withstood the vicissitudes of the past 95 years and so closely and clearly mirrors the Islam we see acted out today is a testament to the observations of Fr. Menezes.


ISLAM'S INFLUENCE ON SOCIETY

The Mahommedan religion on the whole with all its dogmatic and moral principles, and with all its positive and negative laws has been a curse to human society. Mahommed pretended to confer by his religion a boon, at least on his own countrymen, by giving them in place of gross idolatry, a purer faith, and surer moral habits, but in this attempt he has miserably failed and has hopelessly fallen into the very sin he so vehemently assailed. Mahommedanism has penetrated into barbarous countries and has forced its inhabitants to accept it as their saving religion, but in doing so it has not succeeded in elevating man's condition to a higher level--or at least to a level any level higher than that of Arabia in Mahommed's time. The partial and specious reforms which it may have attempted to effect, are vitiated by the fact that they tend to exclude the higher and nobler virtues; and as the inner life of families, the whole of society and the intellectual and moral standard of a people depend on the principles of the ruling religion, it is hopeless to expect that Islam will ever cease to be what it has hitherto proved, the most formidable obstacle to the dawn of a progressive and enlightened civilization. How can it be otherwise? No permanent house can be built on a foundation of sand; what permanent civilization and progress then can be expected from a people professing a religion founded on fatalism, polygamy and slavery? Their blind belief in inevitable fate, and their antagonism to liberty of thought and action have rendered reform next impossible; and the professors of this religion seem never to realise their obligations and duty towards the people under their rule, of spreading true civilization, good government and the cultivation of the peaceful arts. The natural consequence of this ignorance and blindness has been despotism, mal-administration, bigoted persecution and oppression of their co-religionists.

In the countries of the Mahommedan world anarchy, rapine, revenge, strife and murder are the order of the day; thieving, lying, usury and oppression are looked upon more as virtues than vices; unrestrained licentiousness carried to unimaginable excess. Dirt and filth are things that never come seriously before the attention of Mahommedans, they seem indeed to prefer living in the most dirty and filthy environment. They are generally illiterate and at the same time self-conceited, and their vainglory in their religion and the nothingness of their own acquirements makes them scorn every other religion; the meagre education which they receive when young, makes them believe there is not much more for them to learn in the world. In short, Mahommedan countries are the chosen of ignorance,bigotry, tyranny and brutal vice, and a rendevous for a filthy, unprincipled people, as well as for brigands, felons and freebooters. While all other countries not influenced by Islam have made rapid progress in every direction and enjoy the blessings and peace of true civilization, Mahommedan countries have remained absolutely opposed to change and reform; nay, rapacity and extortion have reduced them to a most deplorable state.

Such is the boon conferred upon society by the Mahommedan religion, and what a benefactor Mahommed has been to his country (!) who was pleased to give to his country, nay, to the whole world, a religion which, claiming divine origin as the final and irrevocable standard of morality, has kept its followers sunk in ignorance and barbarism, and has become an insuperable barrier to the regeneration, civilization and progress of the Eastern world.

The Gaza Beach Incident

The Australian Bagel Blogger has done a bang-up job analyzing the Gaza Beach Incident. The story is long, exhaustive, but well worth the time to read. It's based upon as much of extant public data as was available at blog-time.

The accident at Gaza beach which resulted in the death of 8 people and the serious injury of many others is a very sad event indeed.BagelBlogger decided to do as much research on this matter as reasonably possible, to resolve some questions most people still have.

This is an extended, long essay that delves into a very complex issue.It brings up some evidence and issues that I believe have not been brought up before.

The Declaration of Freedom for Humanity

July 4th is coming up next Tuesday. In anticipation of that, I offer the following Declaration of Freedom of Humanity. It is an updating of the July 4th, 1776, "The Declaration of Independence of the Thirteen Colonies."



The Declaration of Freedom for Humanity

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Men and Women are created Equal, that they are endowed by nature with certain unalienable Rights, which among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these Rights, governments are instituted among Men and Women, deriving their just powers from the Consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that Humanity are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of those living under Dictatorships of whatever form; and the history of the world's present Dictatorships is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over their people. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world:

Dictatorships subject their People to:

Laws without their Assent, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good;

The obstructed of Justice, by refusing their Assent to Laws for establishing independent Judiciary powers;

Prison without Trial by Jury;

Their Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries;

Taxation without their Consent;

Swarms of Officers and Officials to harass them, eat out their substance, and loot their possessions;

The expropriation of their commerce, products, and monies for personal use;

Corruption so vast that bribing officials and officers is the only way to get anything done;

The dissolution of what ever Representative Houses they suffer too exist, for opposing with manly firmness their invasions on the Rights of their People;

And Death by the bullet, sword, and tank treads for only demonstrating their Right to be heard.

The Worst of these Dictatorships subject their People to:

Mass Impoverishment, Famine, and early Death;

A border-to-border Forced Labor, Concentration, or Reeducation Camp;

Internal and foreign Deportations and mass Migration that deprives them of their Homes, Villages, Communities, and Roots;

Torture, Rape, Genocide, Democide, and Demoslaughter;

Rule by Fear;

And the Death and Destruction of Aggressive and Imperial Wars without the People's Assent.

We, the Free People of this World, therefore Declare, appealing to the Souls of Dictatorships' Victims for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by the Authority of the People of the World, solemnly publish and declare, that all Dictatorships are Criminal Governments; that their People of Right ought to be Free; that they ought to be Absolved from all Allegiance to these criminal Governments; that the sovereignty and independence of these criminal Governments ought to be totally dissolved; and that as fellow Human Beings their People ought to have the full Power to speak their Minds, follow their own Religion, peaceably Assemble, establish Commerce, elect their Representatives, and to do all other Acts and Things that Free People may of Right do.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the Rightness of our Declaration, we mutually pledge to Communicate this declaration far and wide, and to support by whatever peaceful means at our disposal the freeing of these subject People.

The New York Times v. U.S. Gov't: What is a Secret and Who Should Keep Them

Is a secret still a secret if everyone knows the secret, but never mentions the secret? That is a question I have pondered for many years and have yet to decide. That is precisely the question being asked by George W. Bush, Bill Keller, the TIMES newspapers, the media in general, and the American people.

The New York Times' executive editor Bill Keller told CBS's "Face the Nation" Sunday morning:
"[p]ublished reports that the U.S. was monitoring international banking transactions were not news to the terrorists who were its target because the Bush Administration had already "talked openly" about the effort.

"I don't think the threshold test of whether you write about how the government is waging the war on terror is whether they've done something that's blatantly illegal or outrageous," Keller said. "I think you probably would like to know what they're doing that's successful as well."
Last week, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, and several other newspapers (and blogs) "revealed" that the White House was tracking terrorist-related financial transactions in the international banking system called SWIFT. These entities have been criticized for disclosing "secret" operations meant to nix terror plots and activities.

President Bush said the latest revelation was "disgraceful" and did "great harm" to the country. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, reiterated his view on CNN's Sunday "Late Edition" that The New York Times should be prosecuted persuant to the 1917 Espionage Act (read the pdf - it's only four short pages) for continuously disclosing classified information.

But, was the information really as classified or secret as the President and the Administration claim? Is Bill Keller right in saying the terrorists already knew (or at least, could have known) about the financial counterterror operations?

The answer to the first question, I must conclude is NO. Neither the information, nor the operation were secret, though they may have been classified as secret. Though it can't be known with certainty, Bill Keller is probably right that the bad guys knew about the programs and opertaions or could have known. It was easy enough me to find out. The Bush Administration announced the program and plans when President Bush signed Executive Order 13224 on September 23, 2001. The E.O. was distributed to the media as a Fact Sheet from the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Washington, D.C., December 20, 2002.

In fact, the information is available from the White House website under Homeland Security. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find this reference paragraph:


Cracking Down On Terrorist Financing With Our International Partners. Over 400 individuals and entities have been designated pursuant to Executive Order 13224, resulting in nearly $150 million in frozen assets and millions more blocked in transit or seized at borders. We have built an international coalition that is applying more rigorous financial standards and controls to help prevent terrorists' use of the international financial system. Specifically, we have established with the Government of Saudi Arabia a Joint Task Force on Terrorism Finance that serves as a coordinating mechanism to cooperate on important terrorism-financing investigations.
As much as I would like to see the scoundrels at the TIMES prosecuted, found guilty, and put away for a very long time (only because we can't hang people anymore), I'm afraid nothing can be done. I do not think for one minute the public accessibility of the information exonerates Bill Keller, the NY and LA TIMES, and anyone else involved in the decision to publish. It may be doubtful the terrorists actually take the time or make the effort to access the White House website to find obscure information thereby learning details of programs better left concealed, it is neither excuse, nor valid reason to make that knowledge generally known. Maybe they do visit the White House website regularly, but that doesn't mean anyone ostensibly on our side should make it easy to find information that can be exploited to kill and maim innocent civilians or uniformed service members. Simply, it just isn't right.

Whether the actions taken by the media members were right or wrong, legal or illegal, righteouos or morally repugnant, all the information was and still is, in fact, in the public domain and was put there by the very government that is now protesting the public disclosure of that information. Publically held secrets do not remain secret for long in a society that values a free press and an enlightened electorate. If the government wants secrets to remain so, then the government should not publish their existence in the first place.
