Atheism is Religion

Atheism: 1. a. Disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods.
b. The doctrine that there is no God or gods.
2. Godlessness; immorality.

There is no personal dispute with the definition provided by Your Dictionary, except the "immorality" part. Anyone who knows me, has read this blog, or my comments on other blogs will know I am an atheist and anything but immoral. However, my personal belief isn't the subject at hand.

Yesterday, August 19, 2005, a date which will live in insanity, the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Wisconsin ruled atheism is a religion. That's right - atheism is a religion.

According to the Robed Ones, "Atheism is religion, and the group that he [the bad guy prisoner behind bars and locked gates, watched over by good guys with guns] wanted to start was religious in nature even though it expressly rejects a belief in a supreme being."

The prison authorities refused the prisoner's request to form a study group for atheists. The court, in all its wisdom, decided his 1st Amendment rights were violated. Should any prisoner wish to form a study group for fans of Wizard of Oz would be within their 1st Amendment rights to have L. Frank Baum beatified. Well, why not? L. Ron Hubbard has a religion called Scientology and brother N. Ron has a religion called greed - ok, had a religion.

Torcaso v. Watkins, 1961, the US Supreme Court ruled secular humanism is a religion. Religion, the Supremes claim, does not necessarily require the belief in God, gods, or any supreme beings (presumably that does not include Supreme Court beings.) One should applaud the American concept that all beliefs and lack thereof are equally acceptable so long as those beliefs do not impinge upon the civil rights of others or offend the sensibilities of the average persons of the community.

But, when the Holy Robed Ones rule, as Brian Fahling, senior trial attorney for the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy has said, "a belief system, that, by every known definition other than the courts' is not a religion, while simultaneously declaring public expressions of true religious faith to be prohibited," is to turn this society on its head and step through the looking glass, declaring up is down and ketchup is a vegetable then the sensibilities of the average person of any community should be offended and recognize their civil rights have been impinged.

When gymnastically adept jurisprudence becomes the law of the land, one can justifiable presume the philosophical and literary qualifications for Federal judgeships are not very high. We have long ago passed the argument of what "is" is, if oral sex is or isn't sex, passed the signpost up ahead and stepped into that place called the Twilight Zone.

Cindy and George Sittin' in a Tree

I'm still on vacation and having a good time. But, I just can't let this Cindy Sheehan thing go by without saying something. She is being used and willingly so. The PR company that represants her is owned by George Soros (Hungarian immigrant from communism, rags-to-riches beneficiary of the American capitalist system, ivory-tower "I know better than the stupid serfs because I've got alot of money" elite rich guy, and all-around no-goodnik. George has his head so far up his _____, he can authoritatively say, " I don't have any stinkin' polyps!)

Here is a new blog that has come on line only this month. He has done his homework on what Cindy has said and written that she now claims she didn't say or write.

Bookmark this site; this guy will be worth reading. He'll be humogous.
