A Ruthless Embrace

The Mayor of London, Mr Ken Livingstone told a press conference on Tuesday (January 11, 2005): "When you get a progressive figure who is moving that religion [Islam] in the correct direction you engage and you develop it."
Bob Neill, Leader of the London Assembly Conservatives, condemned Mr Livingstone's support for the cleric, "He is the type of man Mr Livingstone should, like us, be condemning not cosying up to. It's utterly unacceptable."

Despite the well-meaning, pre-emptive hugs, the bombs exploded anyway.
Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian born cleric, has received criticism for his support of suicide bombings and his homophobic and anti-Semitic views, jihad and jihadi terrorism. Speaking on Al-Jazeera Television [Qatar], June 19, 2001, Mr. Qaradawi said,

"Allah has also made the prophet Muhammad into an epitome
for religious warriors [Mujahideen] since he ordered Muhammed to fight for
religion ... the first assignment is to prepare the hero who is willing to put his
life in his own hands for Allah's sake, and he who does not care whether he
encounters death or death encounters him ... He [i.e., a self-immolating bomber]
kills the enemy while taking self-risk, similarly to what Muslims did in the
past ... He wants to scare his enemies, and the religious authorities have
permitted this. They said that if he causes the enemy both sorrow and fear of
Muslims ... he is permitted to risk himself and even get killed."
Mr. Al-Qaradawi, writing in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat (London), July 19, 2003, had this to say:
"It has been determined by Islamic law that the blood and
property of people of Dar Al-Harb [the Domain of Disbelief where the war for the
domination of Islam should be waged, i.e. including within Western Europe and
America] is not protected. Because they fight against and are hostile towards
the Muslims, they annulled the protection of his blood and his property ... in
modern war, all of society, with all its classes and ethnic groups, is mobilized
to participate in the war, to aid its continuation, and to provide it with the
material and human fuel required for it to assure the victory of the state
fighting its enemies. Every citizen in society must take upon himself a role in
the effort to provide for the battle. The entire domestic front, including
professionals, laborers, and industrialists, stands behind the fighting army,
even if it does not bear arms."
Unambiguously defining his final goal, totally in-line with orthodox Islamic jihadist ideology, al-Qaradawi addressed a 1995 Muslim youth convention in Toledo, Ohio:

“We will conquer Europe, we will conquer
America!”.

We need a Churchillian war policy - fight them on the beaches, fight them in the cities, we shall never give up, we shall never surrender. Winston Churchill said, "When great causes are on the move in the world we learn we are spirits, not animals, and that something is going on in space and time, and beyond space and time, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty." We need that kind of thinking today.

We need the kind of war policy expressed by John Derbyshire in National Review On-Line:
"Is the United States willing to fight this war the way it needs fighting, with grim ferocity and cold unconcern for legalistic niceties? To lay waste great territories and their peoples, innocent and guilty alike, to level cities, to burn forests and divert rivers, to smite our enemies hip and thigh, to carry out summary execution of captured leaders?"
This is the American style of warfare; Sherman's March Through Georgia on a grand scale and stop killing only when the enemy gives-up unconditionally and immediately. Are we willing to do this, yet? No, we have been to college and such warfare is so inhumane that we cannot bring ourselves to believe Americans ever fought this way, let alone do it ourselves in the 21st century.
But, we have done it and we must again, if we want to survive into the 22nd century. The British, the French, Germans, Spaniards, Brazilians, Japanese, and every other freedom loving nation must swallow their morality and get on with what we must do - lay waste to the hostile forces, their land, their homes, and their families until they cannot imagine fighting any longer. Then, and only then, should we offer hugs and pick them up, helping them get back into decent, peaceful society.
When July began, Mayor Ken Livingstone was hugging the enemy. Barely a week later, he was offering not hugs, but this stern admonition,

"In the days that follow look at our airports, look at
our sea ports and look at our railway stations and, even after your cowardly
attack, you will see that people from the rest of Britain, people from around
the world will arrive in London to become Londoners and fulfill their dreams
and achieve their potential."

"Nothing you do, however many of us you kill, will stop
that flight to our city. Whatever you do, however many you kill, you will
fail."

Ok maybe we can get through this. Sherman sacked and burned Columbia SC. After the war, NYFD gave Columbia a fire wagon. Columbia gave NYFD a fire truck after 9/11. It is to replace the one lost from Red Hook station I believe. We are still united and always will be. We will win when we beat them so badly as to cause them to lose faith.

Thanks Tom. That's interesting history, the kind that really makes the world turn.

They will fail only after we develop the resolve to beat them into submission. Whining about the treatment at Gitmo isn't exactly what I had in mind. Allowing terrorists to march through London chanting death to Bush and Blair isn't what I had in mind. Allowing Muslim clerics to hold public speeches preaching our destruction isn't what I had in mind. Allowing the Saudi Govt. to distribute textbooks to American mosques preaching our destruction isn't what I had in mind. U.S. senators publicly attacking our war effort isn't what I had in mind. We need to develop the resolve and backbone of our forefathers or they just might not fail.
